About Us

78' TRADE WINDS II

tradewinds

Captree's only dedicated ocean fluke boat.

Trade Winds II sails full day, deep water ocean fluke every day in season. The boat is located on the right end of the dock at Captree State Park. Captain Paul Risi has been operating boats at Captree State Park and other east coast ports for over 20 years and is eager to take you fishing in the Atlantic Ocean off Long Island, where he has the majority of his experience. Regular Captree customers will recognize Paul and the talented crew that has come to work with him.  There is full galley on board and the accommodations are very clean. All necessary equipment is furnished, including bait and tackle. Call for reports and additional information. Trade Winds sails at 7 A.M. everyday in season, and returns around 4 P.M.

Trade Winds was built in Virginia in 1959. She is framed heavily with oak timbers, and the hull planking is old growth long leaf yellow, arguably one of the best materials ever available to build a boat. She started in service as the ferry from Montauk to Block Island for the Viking Fleet. Her potential was soon realized, and the Viking Starlite, as she was first named, began fishing hard from Montauk. She was also the first vessel to take divers to the Andrea Doria.

Capt. Paul and his wife Kathy acquired Trade Winds in the fall of 2001. They spent seven months of intense work getting her hull and systems into the prime condition necessary for a hard working boat. The hull was completely refastened, all electrical wiring was inspected and replaced as necessary, as was most all plumbing and secondary installations. The wheelhouse was furnished with equipment to satisfy the most discerning fisherman or navigator, and all safety equipment was updated and refurbished.
